The NBA All-Star weekend is a yearly event that has been held since 1951 to showcase the best players in the National Basketball Association (NBA). It is a weekend-long celebration that includes various events such as the the Rising Stars Challenge, the Skills Challenge, the Three-Point Contest, the Slam Dunk Contest and ofcourse the legendary All Star Game. The All-Star weekend has also become a platform for the league to showcase its social and charitable initiatives, with events such as the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service, which engages players and fans in community service projects, and the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, which features celebrities and former NBA players competing against each other for charity.
The first NBA All-Star Game was held on March 2, 1951, at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. It was the brainchild of Boston Celtics owner Walter A. Brown, who wanted to create an exhibition game that would showcase the best players in the league. The inaugural All-Star Game featured 10 players from each of the NBA’s Eastern and Western Divisions, and it was played in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,094 fans. The East team, which was led by George Mikan and Bob Cousy, defeated the West team, which was led by Jim Pollard and Slater Martin, 111–94.

Over the next few decades, the NBA All-Star Game became one of the most popular events in the league. It was played annually, except for a brief period in the 1970s when it was held biannually due to the addition of several new teams to the league. The All-Star Game also became a platform for the league’s best players to showcase their skills and compete against each other.
In this article, we will take a look at the top 5 all time individual performances in the recent history of the NBA All-Star weekend.
5. 2011 All Star game : Kobe Bryant vs Lebron James duel in the 2011 All Star Game.
The 2011 NBA All-Star Game was held on February 20, 2011, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. It was the 60th edition of the All-Star Game and it featured a legendary matchup between two of the league’s biggest stars, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James of the Miami Heat.

Kobe Bryant led the West to a 148–143 victory over LeBron and the East. Bryant won his record 4th All-Star Game MVP after scoring 37 points and 14 rebounds while LeBron James had 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in the game, making him the first player to post a triple double in the All Star Game since Michael Jordan in 1997.
The game also featured an iconic moment when Kobe dunked on LeBron and gave him the old pat on the back — appreciating LeBron’s attempt to block his short.
4. 2017 All Star Game : Russell Westbrook drops 41 Points in 19 mins of the bench.
In what may probably go down as one of the most underrated All Star Game performances in history, Russell Westbrook came off the bench and put on a showcase with 41 Points, 7 Assists and 5 Rebounds and 7 Triples in just 19 minutes. All this shooting over 60% from the field.
While he may not have taken MVP honours due to Anthony Davis scoring 52 points in the same game, he definitely helped the West beat the East 192–182.

3. 1988 All Star Game : Michael Jordan goes off in 1988 at home in Chicago.
In 1988, Michael Jordan put on an absolutely dominating performance in front of his home crowd in Chicago to win the All Star Game MVP. Jordan finished with 40 Points, 8 Rebounds, 4 Steals, 4 Blocks and 3 Assists and finished just 2 points shy of the then All Star Game record of 42 points held by Wilt Chamberlain.

Jordan was in the midst of his first MVP season and was a dominant force on the court, leading the Eastern Conference to a 138–133 victory over the Western Conference that featured the likes of Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
The game is remembered as one of Jordan’s finest All-Star Game performances and helped solidify his reputation as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
2. Anthony Davis breaks Wilt’s record with 52 Points in front of his home crowd.
In the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans, home All Star starter Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans) had a strong performance, finishing with 52 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. He was the leading scorer in the game and set an All-Star record for most points scored in a single game, surpassing the previous record of 42 points set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962.

Davis scored a record 30 points in one half and also attempted a record 39 shots in the game. The Western Conference won 192–182, and Davis was undoubtedly named the All-Star Game MVP.
1. Steph Curry explodes for 50 Points and 16 triples.
In 2022, Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry was the unanimous pick to win the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 NBA All-Star Game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
Steph Curry set an All-Star Game record by draining 16-of-27 3-point attempts, shattering Paul George’s previous record of nine, set in 2016. Curry finished with 50 points on 17-of-30 shooting from the field, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.

Curry nearly broke the 3-point record by halftime, when he had 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting from downtown. Curry also broke two records in the first half with six 3-pointers in a quarter and eight in a half.
He nearly broke the all time NBA All-Star Game scoring record, which is currently held by Anthony Davis, who put up 52 points in New Orleans in 2017.
Curry’s lights out shooting night helped Team LeBron to a 163–160 win over Team Durant.
